Road crashes kill 13
Thirteen people were killed and 46 others injured in road accidents in Chittagong, Comilla, Rajbari, Chuadanga, Jhenidah, Lalmonirhat and Naogaon on Saturday and yesterday.
Our staff correspondent from Chittagong reports, covered-van driver Bachchu Bepari, 28, son of Abu Bakkar Bepari of Shibchar upazila in Madaripur, was killed and the van owner injured as a bus collided head-on with the van on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Royal Gate area of Sitakunda upazila yesterday morning, said highway police.
Injured Tofajjal Hossain, 45, was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, Wahidul Islam, 15, son of Nazrul Islam, died as a bus hit a rickshaw carrying him at Chittagong city's Muradpur on Saturday night.
UNB from Comilla reports, a Dhaka-bound microbus overturned at Matiara in Sadar Dakkhin upazila early yesterday, killing its driver Abdul Mannan, 28, of Uttara in Dhaka, and one-and-half-year-old Ayesha, and injuring 10 other passengers, including Ayesha's uncle Zainal Abedin, commander of Bangladesh Navy.
All the injured, Zainal`s family members, were rushed to Comilla Medical College Hospital and a local hospital.
Meanwhile, a microbus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Chhoyghoria in Chandina on Dhaka-Chittagong highway yesterday morning, killing the auto-rickshaw passenger Shahjahan, 45, instantly and injuring its driver.
Our Kushtia correspondent reports, three of a family were killed and two others injured as a bus rammed a car in Goalando Feed Mill area of Rajbari yesterday afternoon.
The dead were Ain Uddin, 65, his daughter Nazma, 28, and younger brother Abdur Razzak of Mahmudpur village in Shailakupa of Jhenidah.
In Chuadanga, two friends were killed and another injured as a bus hit their motorbike on Chuadanga-Darshona road in Taltola of Damurhuda upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased were Anwar, 26, son of Abul Hossain of the upazila; Nayon, 25, son of Dilu Mondol of Chuadanga sadar upazila.
Following the accident, angry mob blocked the road for an hour.
In Jhenidah, bus helper Mohsin Ali, 25, was killed instantly and 30 others were injured as the bus fell into a roadside ditch in Moheshpur upazila yesterday morning.
In Lalmonirhat, a truck ran farmer Yusuf Ali, 52, over on Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway at Madonpur in Aditmari upazila yesterday morning, killing him instantly.
In Naogaon, Dulal Hossain, 18, son of Mozammel Haque of Dangra in Manda upazila, was killed and another injured as a truck hit their motorbike in Nichu Mohanagar area of the upazila yesterday.
