Three women jailed for drug peddling
A court in Jessore on Monday sentenced three women to two years' rigorous imprisonment each for drug peddling.
The convicts are Zahura Khatun, daughter of late Belayet Ali, Jesmin Khatun, wife of late Korban Ali and Noorjahan, wife of late Selim, residents of Roypara in Jessore town.
The convicts were also fined Tk 2,000 each.
According to the prosecution, police arrested Zahura, Jesmin and Noorjahan from near Jessore railway station and recovered 70 bottles of Indian phensidyl from their possessions on August 13, 2005.
In Cox's Bazar, BGB members recovered 10,000 pieces of Yaba tablets at Sabrang Ghat in Teknaf upazila early Monday.
An officer of BGB 42 Battalion said that a gang of smugglers were keeping the tablets on the bank of the Naaf River from a boat at about 4:00am.
Being chased, they fled the scene leaving behind the boat and the tablets.
