Four more prosecution witnesses give statements

Four more prosecution witnesses gave their statements before a Dhaka court yesterday regarding the killing of Saudi embassy official Khalaf Al Ali. On March 6, Khalaf, an official at the consular section of the embassy in Dhaka, was shot dead near his Gulshan house in the capital's diplomatic enclave. Witnesses who gave their statements are United Hospital's physician Dr Abu Sayeed MM Rahman, two ward boys Maksudur Rahman and Mohammad Ripon, and its deputy manager Matiur Rahman. Later, defendant's lawyers cross-examined them. In his statement MM Rahman said he gave first aid to Khalaf after he was admitted to the hospital at 1:15am, but the victim succumbed to his wounds at 5:15am. Later he gave a death certificate of the victim. Maksud and Ripon said they were present during the making of an inquest report of Khalaf's body by a police official. Matiur Rahman said he supplied everything for Khalaf's treatment. Judge Mohammad Motahar Hossain fixed tomorrow for the next hearing. Earlier on two dates, four prosecution witnesses including complainant of the case gave their statements. Four of the five accused Mohammad Al Amin, Saiful Islam Mamun, Rafiqul Islam Khokon, Akbar Ali Lalu are in police custody while Selim Chowdhury, the fifth accused, is on the run.
