Formalin detection launched in Ctg
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) launched formalin detecting service in three kitchen markets of the port city yesterday, aiming to make food products in those markets free from the harmful chemical.
CMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam inaugurated the service at Kazir Dewri Kitchen Market. The facility will also be available at Chowmuhani CDA Karnaphuli Market and Karnaphuli Kitchen Market.
The CMP chief said, “Primarily we are providing this service in three markets. When these markets will become totally formalin-free, the others will follow suit.”
There are arrangements for detecting formalin manually and through detectors. Three Formaldehyde Vapour Detector Metres have been set up in the three markets, each of which cost Tk 1.26 lakh.
Apart from the detectors, chemical reagents have been imported to detect formalin manually.
A total of 18 trained female police constables will operate the machines at the markets. Buyers can have their purchased food checked through the machines for free.
