Three killed in Gaibandha

Three persons were killed, including a child, in separate incidents yesterday in Gaibandha. In Palashbari, a child was killed and two others sustained injuries when they were attacked by a rival group over land possession. One Rajjob Ali's daughter Fency, 7, was killed, while Rajjob's son Abdul Aziz, 18, his daughter Razia Sultana, 2, and his second wife Shahena Begum, 28, sustained injuries. Police said Rajjob took out a lease on a 0.1-decimal government khas land and cultivated maize on it. However, his neighbour, Moslem Ali, along with some goons destroyed the maize claiming the land to be his property. Afterwards Rajjob and Moslem quarrelled and Moslem attacked Rajjob's family. A case was filed in this connection. In the second incident, Gobindaganj police recovered the body of Jakirul Prodhan, 28, an auto-rickshaw driver, from Katakhali bridge on Rangpur-Bogra highway. Meanwhile, a man was killed and six others were injured during a clash over disputed land property in Bhajina Khamar village of Gaibandha sadar upazila. The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim Mia, 55. Police said one Nurul Huda and Abdul Karim clashed over drawing boundary lines of the disputed land. Abdul Karim died on the spot. The injured were taken to a local hospital in Gaibandha. Confirming the incident, AKM Nahidul Islam, superintendent of police, said five persons were arrested in this connection.
