Looted threads, cloths recovered in capital, 10 held
Detective Branch (DB) of police recovered looted threads and cloths worth around Tk 1.5 crore from a warehouse of a garment factory in the capital's Malibgh area yesterday.
The export products were looted from covered vans of different garment factories while being carried to Chittagong for shipment in August and October, DB officials said.
Earlier on Thursday, the DB arrested 10 members of a robber's gang from Jatrabari, Uttara, Malibagh and Savar in this connection.
The arrestees are Md Zafar, Maoshiur Rahman, Md Saiful Islam Shahin, Jaman, Abu Kawser, Monir Hossain, Selim Reza, Mizanur Rahman, Sagar Mahmood, and Moksedul.
DB sources said they first arrested Zafar and Selim from Jatrabari area. Later, others were held.
Selim, a marketing manager of a garment factory, coordinated the selling of the looted goods, they said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of DB Mashiur Rahman said the robber's gang snatched 150 cartons of threads worth around Tk 50 lakh from a covered van of GMS Composite Industries at Banianagar intersection of Sutrapur on August 14.
On October 11, the gang snatched 357 rolls of cloths worth around Tk 93 lakh of garment factories--Sinha Textile Group and Opex Group--from another covered van at Sonargaon of Narayanganj.
