Subhash Dutta, an iconic figure of Bangla film, was cremated on Postagola Cremation Ground in the capital yesterday. Earlier, he was given last respects and love by the people, and a guard of honour with gun-salute by a contingent of police at Central Shaheed Minar. Dutta died of old age complications at the age of 82 at his Ramkrishna Mission Road house in the capital on Friday. After according the state honour his body was taken to Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) where artists, litterateurs, politicians and common people paid their last respects to him. Cultural personality Asaduzzaman Noor MP recalled his contributions saying Subhash Dutta and other Bangalee filmmakers of the then East Pakistan had introduced a different track in the film industry. Celluloid hero Razzaque said the people could not forget Subhash Dutta for his outstanding contributions to Bangla film industry. Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu said the collections of Dutta's works needed preservation and the government would do its best for that.
