11 Rohingyas detained in Ukhia of Cox's Bazar

Eleven Rohingya youths were detained near Ukhia Degree College in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar yesterday. The detainees are Md Jubair, Rashid Ullah, Md Rafique, Md Halim, Nazim Uddin, Anwar, Sebal Karim, Abdullah, Gafur Miah, Jasim, and Nurul Islam, of Nagpura Roingadong village in Myanmar. Ukhia Police Station Sub-Inspector Shyamol said acting on a tip-off they detained the people after raiding a Cox's Bazar bound bus. Quoting the detainees, police said the Myanmar citizens entered Bangladesh after crossing the Naff river by a fishing boat on Friday in a bid to go to Malaysia. According to police, the Rohingyas came first to Jadimora area of Teknaf upazila with the help of a human trafficking syndicate's middleman named Nabi Ullah, who is also a Rohingya. They had planned to go to Malaysia by sea route from Cox's Bazar, police said. Ukhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Appela Raju Naha said the process to deport the detained people to Myanmar was going on. Meanwhile, police yesterday arrested an Awami League local leader Sharif Hossain from Teknaf upazila sadar in a case filed by Coast Guard with Teknaf Police Station on charges of his involvement in human trafficking to Malaysia.
