Police recovered the body of a student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) from the roof of a tin-shed house in Bangla Motor area of the capital on Sunday evening. The deceased Faisal Karim Auntu, a second year student of Urban and Regional Planning Department under the 38th batch, was a resident of Maulana Bhasani Hall. Auntu, son of Obaidul Karim, lived in Mirpur area with his parents. Shahbagh police sent the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said JU Proctor Sohel Ahmed. The reason behind the death could not be ascertained immediately. Fellows of Auntu at a press conference on the campus yesterday said Auntu failed in the final year examinations twice. They claimed that Auntu sought help from his department's teachers to hold a special exam for him as his studentship might have been cancelled if he failed once again, but the teachers refused to do so. Consequently, Auntu committed suicide over his frustration, they alleged. The department's Chairman Prof Aktar Mahmud admitted that Auntu was suffering from frustration over his failure in the examinations.
