Burglars stole around 450 tolas of gold jewellery from a shop in the capital's Eastern Plaza between Monday night and early yesterday.
Kartick Karmakar, owner of the shop, Shatarupa Jewellers, housed on the third floor, said they closed the shop on Monday night and found it robbed after opening it yesterday around 10:30am.
Tuesday is observed as a weekly holiday by shops, markets and commercial establishments in Hatirpool area, where Eastern Plaza is situated.

Kalabagan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Enamul Hoque said although the shop's doors and padlocks were intact, police found one square feet of its false ceiling open. Police suspect that the burglars entered through the gap.
“The market authority installed iron bars on the false ceiling but a portion of it inside the shop was open,†said Kalabagan Police Station Sub-inspector Jalaluddin.
Detective Branch of Police and Criminal Investigation Department's forensic unit collected fingerprints from the dust on the false ceiling.
