Govt to amend disaster act

The government would amend the Disaster Management Act, 2012, said Mohammed Sayedul Hoque, a lawmaker and chairman of parliamentary standing committee on the food and disaster management ministry. He was speaking as chief guest at a discussion on "The Disaster Management Act 2012: A comprehensive review" jointly organised by the Right to Food and Social Security Campaign and Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon in the capital's Jatiya Press Club yesterday. Prof Firoz Ahmed of Bapa chaired the programme while Shahidul Islam, a lawyer at Supreme Court, presented a keynote paper. Prof Shah Alam, acting chairman of Bangladesh Law Commission, said the commission would recommend the government to amend the law based on the suggestions of the civil society members and lawyers by the next January.
