An official of Siang Kuang Apparels yesterday jumped off the first floor of the Korean sweater factory at Salna in Gazipur to escape protesters during a labour unrest there. The official, Jaang, a Korean citizen and the factory's production advisor, sustained injuries in the incident. On information, Gazipur Industrial Police reached the factory, quelled the unrest and sent Jaang to United Hospital in the capital. According to workers, the authorities transferred the factory equipments to another building during Eid holidays, assuring the workers that work would resume soon in the new factory. However, the workers were yesterday informed that only those among them working on a salary would receive wages for the last month, but those receiving payment for piece by piece production will not get any payment. Hearing this, the workers began unrest, demanding benefit as per the Labour Law. Labour leaders said the protest would continue until the demands were met.
