Knowledge sharing must for sustainable growth
Discussion told
Sharing knowledge among development organisations and activists is crucial to achieve sustainable development, said speakers at a discussion in the capital yesterday.
“We are all working towards the same goal of poverty elimination, so we should learn from each other to have a greater impact,†said Elena Ahmed, deputy country director of Plan Bangladesh.
They were addressing the inaugural session of a two-day programme titled “4th National Knowledge Convention: Poverty and Development: Realities of Grassroots", organised by Plan Bangladesh, ActionAid Bangladesh and Practical Action Bangladesh at Brac Centre Inn.
Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu inaugurated the event.
"We want sustainable and green development which should be driven by local knowledge,†the minister remarked, adding that development methods prescribed by donors should not be followed unquestioningly.
Farah Kabir, country director of ActionAid Bangladesh, said that two-day convention will play a crucial role in disseminating findings of researches and the experiences of development workers among all stakeholders including the government.
Veena Khaleque, country director of Practical Action Bangladesh, urged the government to replicate the best practices of NGOs in a large scale, so that the entire country is benefited.
Researchers, NGOs, academics and government officials will present papers at the programme.
The three best papers and abstracts of selected papers were published in paperback by the organisers.
