A schoolboy was found dead yesterday in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong, a day after he had gone missing.
Samiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda Police Station, said being informed by the locals, they recovered the body of 10-year-old Arafat Rahman Abir beside the Chittagong port connecting road under the upazila.
Abir, son of Reazuddin, of Halishahar area, was a class-V student.
Nazim Uddin, sub-inspector of Halishahar Police Station, said some unidentified criminals strangled Abir and left the body there. The law enforcers found some finger prints on the throat, but no other marks of injury were visible on the body.
Quoting the victim's father, the police officer said Abir went missing on Monday after he went to play in the afternoon on the nearby playground in the area. His parents started looking for Abir when he did not return home even in the dusk.
They searched him until 9:00pm and finally after an hour Abir's father lodged a general diary (GD) with the Halishahar Police Station.
Halishahar police sent the body to Chittagong Medical College morgue for an autopsy after being informed of the body recovery by the Sitakunda police.
