Brick field manager beaten to death in Natore
Victim's father-in-law accuses owner
Severely beaten up allegedly by the employer, manager of a brick field died at Natore Sadar Hospital early yesterday.
The deceased is Fazlul Haque, 45, manager of AKC brick field in Natore, and son of Azahar Ali of Tarafbhaikha village under Gabtoli upazila in Bogra.
"Brick field owner Abdur Rahim and its manager Fazlul Haque used to sit on the same chair. On Monday afternoon Rahim came to the brick field office when Fazlul was sitting on the chair. Seeing Fazlul on his chair, Rahim became angry and beat him up with wooden sticks, causing serious injuries to him," said the victim's father-in-law Monu Mian.
Locals later rushed Fazlul to Natore Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries early Thursday.
Eyewitnesses, however, said Fazlul faced wrath of his employer as Fazlul kept his socks on the chair.
"Rahim often assaulted Fazlul on trivial matters. He beat him up with iron rods last month. But Fazlul continued working there just for earning his bread. Rahim, a rich and powerful man, is now giving death threat to Fazlul's family if they lodge any case against him," Monu Mian said.
Police found some injury marks on Fazlul's body that has been sent to Natore Sadar Hspital morgue for autopsy, said Jalal Uddin, sub-inspector of police in Natore.
Munshi Asaduzzaman Tony, resident medical officer in Natore Sadar Hospital, said they also found some injury marks on Fazlul's body and sent the relevant organs to Dhaka for viscera report.
Apel Mahmud, assistant superintendent of police in Natore, said no case was filed with Natore police station in this connection as of filing this report at 5:00pm. Police will take stern action against the culprits just after they receive the case, he added.
Despite repeated attempts by this correspondent, Abdur Rahim could not be contacted as he was not available at his house and his mobile was found switched off.
Rahim's brother Abdul Karim said, "Rahim did not beat up Fazlul on Monday. He had beat him a month ago in connection with stealing of money. Manager Fazlul was an asthma patient and he died from the disease."
