10 killed in road crashes

Ten people were killed and 41 others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj, Tangail and Gaibandha yesterday. Our Pabna correspondent reports, five people were killed and 20 others injured when the Dhaka-bound bus carrying them collided head-on with a salt-laden truck on Banpara-Hatikumrul highway in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj around 2:30am. The dead, Anwarul Islam, 35, Tuhin Hossain, 30, Kabirul Islam, 28, Abdur Rahman, 22, and Mamun Hossain, 18, of Chapainawabganj, were mason. Of the injured, ten were rushed to Sirajganj General Hospital while the others to local clinics. Quoting locals, Hatikumrul police said the bus driver might have lost control over the steering due to his drowsiness Our Tangail correspondent adds, four people were killed and 20 injured when a bus fell into a roadside ditch in Dhanbari upazila while giving side to another bus on Tangail-Jamalpur road around 12:30pm. Three of the dead were identified as Arfan Ali, 40, and Taslim Uddin, 42, of Roumari upazila in Kurigram, and Nurul Islam, 50, of Bakshiganj in Jamalpur. The identity of the other deceased could not be known immediately. The injured were taken to Jamalpur Sadar Hospital. Our Gaibandha correspondent reports, a person was killed instantly and another injured when an oncoming truck rammed a tempo on Rangpur-Bogra highway at Avirampur in the evening. The deceased, Feroj, 24, was the tempo driver. The injured, Siddiqur Rahman, sales representative of Abul Khair Tobacco Company, hired the tempo for transporting the company products to Gobindaganj. He was taken to Bogra Medical College Hospital.
