BCL men try to storm female dorm this time
Some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) cadres attacked and tried to intrude into the female hostel of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SBMC) in Barisal on Monday night.
The incident occurred a night after some BCL leaders intruded into the hostel to occupy rooms for their female activists on Sunday night.
Protesting the incidents, female students of SBMC yesterday boycotted their classes and held demonstrations, protest rally and a press conference on the campus, said campus sources and students.
The students demanded the SBMC authorities to ensure their safety and security on the campus and in the hostel and punishment of the male intruders, they said.
Around 9:30pm on Monday, some agitating BCL cadres led by its leaders Maruf Hossain, Abdul Baki and Harun ur Rashid surrounded the female hostel with sticks and tried to break open the hostel gate to intrude inside, said campus sources and students.
During the attack, panicked female residents demonstrated inside the hostel campus and contacted local journalists over phone asking for help, they said.
After Kotwali police and journalists arrived at the spot, the BCL cadres still stood surrounding the hostel and threw brick bats at it, they added.
The cadres dispersed around 12:45am yesterday after SBMC principal and teachers rushed to the spot.
Meanwhile, local BCL leaders yesterday denied the involvement of their activists or leaders in the attack on the hostel on Monday.
