Touchstone statue recovered
A touchstone Hindu idol of Ganesha, weighing
5 kilograms, was recovered from the capital's Fakirapool yesterday and one person was held in this connection.
The arrestee, Mokhbul Hossain, 44, hailed from Baliadanga upazila of Gaibanda and resided in the capital's Arambagh. He is an assistant editor of the daily Nobo Obhijan and the online news portal mybanglanews.com.
Tipped off, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-10) personnel, disguised as buyers, caught Mokhbul red handed while he was trying to sell them the statue in Fakirapool around 1:00pm, said Rab-10 sources.
Mokhbul was a member of a gang involved in smuggling such precious statues, they added.
