Nahid tells conference at DU
Scientists must play an active role in making science education more attractive to younger generation, said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday.
Without investment in science, socio-economic and human development is not possible, he also said at the inaugural session of a conference on “Legacy of S N Bose: Contemporary Advances in Physical Sciences.â€
Dhaka University (DU) Bose Centre for Advances Study and Research in Natural Sciences organised the conference at Senate Bhaban in the capital.
The education minister remembered the enormous contributions of late Prof Satyendra Nath Bose to quantum mechanics and modern science.
Bose is best known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s. He laid the foundation for Bose–Einstein statistics and the theory of the Bose–Einstein condensate.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique; former professor of DU physics department Dr M Muhtasan Hossain; and former director of DU Bose Center Dr M Harun ur Rashid also addressed the conference.
Physicists from United States, India, Nepal and Bangladesh attended the conference.
