Plight of our workers

We are observing the plight of our workers stranded in Malaysian airports. When these people boarded the flight to Malaysia, they dreamt of working hard and sending their hard-earned money home. Mostly, they envisaged a better life. However, upon descending, they were not received by any members of their recruiting agency. Despite having legal documents, they were then taken to a warehouse where the authorities stopped supplying food after two days. These people are now staring at their bleak future. During the past few years, labour export to Malaysia has proliferated. Under any circumstances, there must not be any retardation in that trend. Care from our part is necessary to ensure that nobody sneaks off to work illegally. So before sending workers through recruiting agencies, their authenticity must be checked thoroughly by the visa authorities. Moreover, upon discovering illegal immigrants, they must be brought swiftly back, as these incidents shall dent our bilateral relationships. Again, why should workers be the prey of such imposters? Due to unemployment at home, they wanted to go abroad to become wage earners. Because of furious competition at the government's manpower export department and the strenuous procedures, they go for other desperate options. Lured by false promises of good jobs, some of them have given all their savings to the agencies and intermediaries. Now, they will encounter a burden upon their whole life. To rescue and support them is an urgent task indeed. We are waiting for a prudent decision by the government.
