Mannan Bhuiyan's contention
Re: Expelled Secretary General did not want to lie at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
The recently expelled BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan was besieged by the journalists; he faced questions about the current hot issues in our country. In reply to the questions of the journalists the expelled BNP secretary general said , “Today is the first day of Ramadan, I do not want to deliver any political speech on this holy day”.
This is what has caught the attention of a young student studying abroad like me. I have been observing that the sacked BNP secretary general has become one of the most talked about persons in Bangladesh and he has been dominating the headline of our newspapers with little ups and downs. Judging the comment of a former leading politician of Bangladesh by an 18 year old student might be crossing the limit, but I would just like to take the opportunity to express my feelings and thoughts on his comment.
As far as I know there is no such thing in Islam that you cannot give a political speech at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. Politics should be for the people, for the advancement of a country. I also know from the Holy Quran and the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that the whole life of a person can be counted as ibadah if it is guided by the holy book and the Sunnah.
If politics is for the people and for establishing the rights of the people, then it is also a good deed. Why did Mr. Bhuiyan refuse to answer the questions of the journalists on the first day of Ramadan?
