ACC chief joins students' oath against corruption in Sylhet

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Hasan Moshhud Chowdhury yesterday said corruption still prevails in society though a vigorous drive against the vice is going on. “No doubt, there has been some improvement. But it is not possible to ascertain the success until there is a survey”, he said. “If we go ahead with the programme to attain the goal, there will be success”, Chowdhury said while addressing a discussion meeting on 'Taking institutional steps for resisting corruption'. Held at Sylhet city's Saifur Rahman auditorium, the meeting was also addressed by, among others, Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Dr. Zafar Ahmed Khan, DIG of police Syed Toufique Uddin Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Harun-ur-Rashid Khan, Sylhet Education Board Chairman Dr. MA Khaleque, Commissioner of Taxes Ajmal Kabir and Customs Commissioner Shahab Uddin Nagri. Administrative heads will have to take the prime responsibility to root out corruption from institutions and departments, the ACC chief said. It is not possible to go ahead just by punishing the corrupt, he said. The ACC chief said corruption is a national problem, not of any department or any quarter or group. He called upon all government officials, students, teachers and businessmen to wake up and to join the drive against corruption to save the nation. If we can make our new generation aware and conscious against corruption, things will improve radically, he said and called for launching an awareness campaign among students and youths across the country. The ACC chief also joined functions the city's Scholarshome School and College and Sylhet Government College where students took oath against corruption yesterday. He also addressed a gathering of government officials and others at Biswanath upazila headquarters.
