Pipeline Gas Supply To South-western Dists

Office opening in Khulna likely Tuesday

The office of the Sundarban Gas Distribution Company is expected to be opened in Khulna city on August 26 by Dr M Tamim, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser. Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed will preside over a cabinet meeting here on August 26. The first ever meeting of advisers will be held at Khulna Circuit House. Opening of the office of Sundarban Gas Distribution Company is aimed at monitoring pipeline gas supply to south-western region of the country, said secretary general of Greater Khulna Development Action Coordination Committee (GKDACC) Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman. The GKDACC leader said that decision taken by the government in 1995 to supply gas to Khulna from Bhola through pipeline is yet to be implemented. Meanwhile, leaders of all political parties, professional and socio-cultural organisations in Khulna in separate press statements have urged the government to give top priority to ensure pipeline gas supply to south-western region. “We want a commitment in this regard from the Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed on August 26”, said Mayor-elect Talukder Abdul Khaleque. Convenor of Khulna city BNP Shaharuzzaman Martuza, general secretary of Khulna district unit of Jatiya Party (Ershad) Shafiqul Islam Madhu and Khulna city Jamaat Ameer Mian Golam Parwar and CPB leader Advocate Firoze Ahmed also made the same demand.
