Drive Against Eve Teasing, Drug Peddling
'Sunset law' likely in Barisal city
Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) have launched a drive against eve teasing and may introduce 'sunset law' in the city to control the menace, juvenile crimes and drug abuse.
Police in last two days detained over 50 youths from different areas of the city for their alleged involvement in eve-teasing, drug peddling and hijacking.
“As they were picked up for the first time, we cautioned the youths and handed them over to their guardians by taking bond that they would not be involved in any anti-social activity”, Assistant Commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police (DMP) Hayatul Islam told this correspondent.
They and their guardians were warned that if they are caught for the second time, they would be sent to jail under penal code.
He further said they were thinking about introducing 'sunset law' in the city to control eve-teasing, hijacking, drug peddling and such other crimes.
Under its provision, youths roaming on city streets after sunset without any justified cause, or found gathering in front of educational institutions and coaching centers or chatting at tea stalls would be detained, Hayatul said.
The decisions were taken at a meeting of the law and order committee held on Monday following reports eve teasing and drug peddling in different areas of the city, he said.
