Widow demands arrest of brother-in-law
A widow at a press conference at Mymensingh Press Club yesterday demanded arrest of her brother-in-law, saying he is threatening her and her sons with death.
Kalpana Rani Sarker, wife of late Satendra Sarker of Chatti village in Sohagi in Iswarganj upazila, alleged that her brother-in-law (husband's brother) Sudhangsu Sarker is also trying to evict her family from their homestead.
She claimed that Sudhangsu is a listed criminal and doing his criminal activities under cover of different professions like journalist, human rights activist, lawyer and NGO worker.
“Sudhangsu, son of late Satish Chandra Sarker, killed my husband (his elder brother) in 1995 for his financial benefit”, alleged Kalpana.
“After killing my husband, he left no stone unturned to evict me from the homestead.
“I could not file a case against him due to continuous threats on me and my children”, said Kalpana.
Kalpana claimed that Sudhangsu faces at least 12 cases, three for murder. He was arrested recently by joint forces and was sent to jail hajat.
Being released on bail, he is threatening to kill me and my sons, she said demanding arrest of Sudhangsu.
At least 15 people from the area who were present at the press conference also alleged that they were victimised by Sudhangsu. They included former chairman of Sohagi Union Parishad Kazi Azizul Haque and former UP member Farid Uddin.
