'Construct Puja Mandir on RU campus'

Teachers, students and employees of Hindu community at Rajshahi University yesterday urged the university authorities to construct a full-fledged Puja Mandir on the premises of Motiher Hall to facilitate them offer religious rites. The demand was placed when Hindu community students under the banner of Sanatan Dharmo Sangha called on RU acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Mamnunul Keramat, the Pro-VC and the chief engineer separately at their offices. They also demanded construction of a separate dormitory for Hindu community boy. They also demanded immediate reopening of the university. Prof Anando Kumar Saha, vice president of Sanatan Dharmo Sangha, told this correspondent that they chalked out different programmes to celebrate Janmashtami but most of those could not be held due to the unscheduled closure of the university. Prof Saha also said a memorandum will be submitted to the University Grant Commission (UGC) chairman for a special budget for construction of a full-fledged Puja Mandir on the campus. There are about 100 teachers, 5000 students and 100 employees at RU belonging to Hindu Community. When contacted, RU Acting VC Prof Mamnunul Keramat told this correspondent that construction of a Puja Mondir will start with reconstruction of Motiher Hall.
