Barisal mayor-elect, councillors to quit party posts before oath
They submit affidavit
Complying with the pre-condition for taking oath as elected post-holders in city corporation, newly elected mayor and councillors of Barisal City Corporation (BCC) yesterday submitted affidavit making commitment about resignation from party posts.
The public representatives, most of them holding posts in political parties, also gave affidavit providing wealth information of themselves and their family members.
Earlier on Tuesday, Local Government Directorate issued a letter in this regard as per Section 7(3) of Local Government (City Corporation) Ordinance 2008.
Mayor-elect of Barisal City Corporation, advocate Shawkat Hossain Hiron, who is also convener of city Awami League, and 30 elected councillors for general seats and 10 female councillors for reserved seats submitted the affidavits yesterday to the Barisal Divisional Commissioner's Office, said the director of Local Government Directorate in Barisal.
Shawkat Hossain Hiron told The Daily Star that he submitted affidavit assuring his resignation from the post of city AL convener before taking oath as city mayor.
