Housewife killed by husband for dowry
A housewife was killed by her husband for dowry at Ratanhat village in Jhenidah Sadar on Thursday, police and family sources said.
Victim Baby Khatun, 25, daughter of Nalu Mandol of Chutlia village was married to Abbas Ali, 30, son of Nalu Mondal of Ratanhat village taking Tk 20,000 as dowry five years ago. After marriage, Abbas created pressure on Baby for more dowry. The couple locked in a quarrel for dowry Wednesday night. At one stage, Abbas strangled his wife who screamed. Hearing her cry, neighbours rushed to the spot and sent her to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital for treatment where she succumbed at about 1-30 am. Later, police sent the body to the hospital morgue for autopsy on Friday.
