Withdraw cases against leaders
Khulna 4-party demands
Four-party alliance leaders in Khulna have demanded withdrawal of a case filed against 15 of their colleagues with Khulna Sadar Police Station on August 17.
“We demand immediate withdrawal of the case for the sake of maintaining peace,” Abul Kalam Azad, acting member-secretary of Khulna city unit of four-party alliance, and general secretary of Khulna city unit of Jamaat-e-Islami, said in a press conference held at Khulna Press Club yesterday.
They would submit memorandum to police commissioner today (Sunday) and hold protest rallies in the city and upazilas of the district demanding withdrawal of the case, he said.
Meanwhile, intra-party squabbles in Khulna BNP continues between two factions one led by ex-lawmaker M Nurul Islam Dadu and ex-general secretary of city committee Nazrul Islam Manju and the other loyal to convicted former lawmaker Ali Asgar Lobi.
Pro-Lobi leaders led by Martuza have openly accused leaders of the other faction of attacking police during observance of human chain programme in the city on August 27 in demand of unconditional release of Begum Khaleda Zia and better treatment of Tarique Rahman by sending him abroad.
Nurul Islam Dadu denied allegation of attacking police by his workers and said Martuza as a 'reformist' is brokering for the government to damage the image of mainstream BNP.
Ten of the 15 leaders sued for violating emergency power rules belong to the BNP faction loyal to Nurul Islam Dadu while three others belong to Jamaat.
