The 37th death anniversary of Birshrestha Noor Mohammad was observed yesterday. On this day in 1971, he embraced martyrdom in a fierce fighting with Parkistan occupation forces at Goalghati village in Sharsha in Jessore. He fought Ssector-8 in the Liberation War. Birshrestha Noor Mohammad Trust and his family members placed wreaths at his grave as a mark of respect. A discussion meeting was held at the office of Noor Mohammad Smirity Museum at Noor Mohammad Nagar, the valiant fighter's village renamed after him. Narail Deputy Commissioner M Moshiur Rahman presided over the discussion. Among others, Police Superintendent M. Kamrul Ahsan, Additional Deputy Ccommissioner Jahangir Alam, Azizur Rahman Bhuyan and Principal Rawshan Ali spoke on the occasion, paying glowing tributed to the memory of the freedom fighter. Talking to The Daily Star, Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad's wife Begum Fazilatunnesa (70) demanded punishment of war criminals. She wondered how war criminals could be in state power and use the National Flag earned at the cost of blood of millons. “It is a great shame for us. I want to see their punishment during my life time”. The freedom fighters are leading life in miserable conditions. Many of them maintain their families even by pulling rickshaw or working as a day labourer and their children are without education while many war criminals are enjoying all facilities. “We cannot forget the memory of 1971. members of Razaker, Al Badr and Al Shams, with the help of Pakistani forces, killed hundreds people and threw their bodies into the Chitra river. Jamaat leader Solaiman led the massacre in Narail town. He is now properly rehabilitated. She urged the government to take steps for development of Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad School in Narail, established eight years ago.
