Five Rangpur bigwigs in disgrace
Five prominent leaders of different political parties and independent candidates in Rangpur, Kurigram and Lalmonirhat districts have been barred from participating in the JS polls as Returning Officers cancelled their nominations for various reasons.
Among them are former JP MPs Golam Habib Dulal of Kurigram-4, and Mohammad Ali of Rangpur-2, AL leader and former lawmaker Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhontu of Rangpur-1, Jammat-e-Islami leader Ershad Hosen Saju of Lalmonirhat-1 and JP's former MP Joynal Abedin of Lalmonirhat-1.
The EC cancelled the nomination papers of Golam Habib Dulal, as there was disparity between his statement of wealth and income tax he showed in the affidavit with nomination paper.
The nomination paper of former JP MP Mohammad Ali who wanted run as an independent candidate this time as the JP denied him ticket has been cancelled as he has been a bank loan defaulter.
AL leader Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhontu's nomination paper was rejected because of his being telephone bill defaulter. AL nominated him for Rangpur-1 constituency. Earlier he was a JP MP from the constituency.
Former JP lawmaker Joynal Abedin's nomination was discarded, as he was an electricity bill defaulter. He was an independent candidate this time. JP nominated the party's former MP of Rangpur-1 Moshiur Rahman Ranga in this constituency for the upcoming JS polls.
Nomination of Jamaat leader Ershad Hosen Saju of Lalmonirhat-1 was cancelled as he had business with the government. According to the electoral laws, a person who has any sort of business with government cannot be allowed to take part in the election.
