Arson at 4 places by BNP rebel's men

The supporters of independent candidate Mahbubur Rahman Shahin in Chandpur Sadar constituency who was denied BNP nomination put up barricade on four separate spots in Chandpur town from 8 am to 9 am yesterday (Thursday), set tyres on fire. The arsonists put fire at Wireless crossing in the town at 8 am. Later they also put fire at Bus stand crossing, Chitralekha crossing and Natun Bazar crossing one after another. The protesters burnt several effigies of BNP nominee for Chandpur-3 constituency (Sadar and Haimchar) GM Fazlul Haque. They chanted slogans demanding cancellation of Fazlul Haque's nomination. Traffic movement on the roads stopped during the programme. Chandpur Model thana sub-inspector Rahim said, supporters of Mahbubur Rahman Shahin led by Chhatra Dal leader Ibrahim Kazi Jewel prepared to occur untoward incidents at 15 locations in the town. On information additional police super of Chandpur ATM Mujahidul Islam deployed huge number of police to foil subversive activities. When pro-Shahin agitators tried to bring out a protest procession at Kalibari crossing police dispersed them. At the time police arrested four Shahin supporters from different areas in raids. Police also seized a microbus. A case has been filed with Chandpur model town as pro-Shahin agitators have been creating trouble in the town for the last four days, police said.
