Image of BTV
A number of attempts in the past have failed to change the image of the BTV.
Presently, the authorities are looking for some positive option to change the image of the BTV. In my humble opinion, programme producers and the moderators/presenters have become synonymous with the BTV's current image crisis. As for example, as soon as we watch the news, socio-economic, political discussions etc, it turns out to be a highly one sided affair and does not consider the different opinions on the same issue. The person who presents it is also becoming part of the same image crisis, and over time they have become mechanical, unpopular and also unacceptable to the general viewers ( no intention of hurting anybody). This proves that controlled media undermines the creditability of the government which owns and runs the same. The reason is, the world is looking for freedom of choice, be it in politics, economic or cultural matters. Bangladesh needs to follow the same path if sustained development is the goal.
There is no need to set up any more commission to suggest any reforms, the simplest way would be to relay and telecast the news, political views from the private satellite channels.
Finally, I would like to mention that a time will come when it would be possible to sell the BTV to a private company with time sharing arrangements for specific government programmes if needed.
