Charges pressed against two bank staff

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Rajshahi has pressed charges against two Janata Bank officials for embezzling about Tk 24 lakh from the bank's Mangalbari branch in Naogaon and three depositors for abetting them. The accused are cashier Fani Bhusan Sarker and second officer Abdur Rahim Mondol, and depositors Anwarul Islam, M Joynal and Zakir Hossain. The branch manager, Abdus Salam was relieved of charges following his death during investigation, said Monayem Hossain, assistant director of Rajshahi ACC after submitting the charge sheet with a Rajshahi court on Thursday. The bank staffs embezzled nearly Tk 23,89,000 from the bank from August 2004 to March 2007.
