'Reformist' PCJSS leader shot
Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) former secretary and 'reformist leader' Chandra Shekhar Chakma received serious injuries as unidentified criminals shot him at Champak Nagar in the town yesterday morning.
Three youths waylaid Chandra Shekhar and one of them shot him on the right side of chest with a shot gun from a close range when he reached PDB Rest House near his residence, Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammed Humayun quoted the victim as saying.
Chandra Shekhar was returning home after receiving money that was sent by his son from Dhaka, at about 10:10am, victim's family members said.
He was first admitted to the Rangamati Sadar Hospital and then referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital as his condition was critical.
Dipankar Takukder, state minister for CHT affairs ministry, visited Chandra Shekhar at hospital and directed police to arrest the culprits.
Chandra Shekhar earlier worked as central committee secretary of PCJSS for three times. About half a year ago, a group of PCJSS activists including Chandra Shekhar moved away from the party mainstream to form a 'reformist group', sources said.
