The authorities of Khulna Nursing Training Institute (NTI) have filed a general diary (GD) with Sonadaga Police Station against 150 out of 170 students, bringing allegation of 'delinquency' against them. Arifa Akther, who has been made acting chief nursing instructor of the iInstitute, filed the GD on Monday night. She also issued an official notice yesterday, asking the absentees to return to their hostel by April 26 and report to their duties. “They will be expelled from the hostel in case of their failure to report to their duties complying with my order issued through official notice”, said the acting chief instructor. The students of Khulna Nursing Training Institute (NTI) continued their class boycott and refrained from discharging duties for the third day yesterday demanding removal of chief instructor Marjina Khatun for her alleged torture on students. They alleged that Marjina Khatun forced three fourth year students to run around the ground of the Institute with shoes hung from their necks as punishment for not wearing socks during their duty at Khulna General Hospital. Senior staff nurses of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) and Khulna General Hospital told The Daily Star yesterday that medicare services to patients have been badly affected due to work stoppage by Khuna NTI students. Apart from getting practical training in nursing, the NTI students provide medicare services to patients in the hospitals, said senior staff nurses. Some patients at KMCH and Khulna General Hospital told this correspondent that they had been deprived of prompt services due to absence of trainee nurses. Dr Mohammod Golam Hossain, superintendent of Khulna Medical College Hospital, said work stoppage by NTI students has virtually deadlocked medicare services as number of staff nurses are very few to meet the need. Meanwhile, NTI students yesterday said they will not go back to hostel and report to their duties until Chief Instructor Marjina Khatun is sacked.
