Nor'wester kills one, injures 27 in two districts

One person was killed, 27 others were injured and about 1,100 houses damaged as two nor'westers lashed Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat districts on Tuesday. Our Nilphamari Correspondent reports: One person was killed and at least 1,000 houses including four educational institutions were damaged as a nor'wester lashed two upazilas Tuesday night. The storm that lasted only 20 minutes hit 20 villages of Sadar and Jaldhaka upazilas. Around 300 small and big trees were also uprooted. Elderly shopkeeper Echher Uddin,65, of Horish Chandra Path market died on the spot when an uprooted tree fell on him. Twenty villagers were also injured in the storm. The damaged institutions are Ithakhola High School, Tupamari Afasuddin Non-govt Primary School, Paschim Bahali Para Ebtedayi Madrasa and Panchapukur Senior Alim Madrasa. A correspondent from Lalmonirhat reports: At least seven people were injured and about 100 houses damaged in the nor'wester that lashed Hatibandha and Patgram upazilas Tuesday night. The storm hit over a number of villages at about 2.30 am damaging houses and crops, especially maize and uprooting a good number of trees, villagers said. The affected areas are Goddimari and Doyani villages of Hatibandha upazila and Islampur and Panbari villages of Patgram upazila.
