Indefinite ban on procession, rally at RU

Rajshahi University (RU) Syndicate has imposed restrictions on rallies, processions and activities of the student bodies on the campus for an indefinite period. The syndicate took the decision at an emergency meeting on Tuesday night with Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan in the chair. The meeting also approved the decision of the academic council, taken on April 28, to reopen the university on June 1 and dormitories on May 30. The syndicate sought police help in maintaining law and order on the campus and called for judicial investigation into March 13 incident. The authorities closed the university indefinitely following a clash between Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) on the campus on March 13. Shibir RU unit Secretary Sharifu-zzaman Nomani was killed and 100 others were injured in the clash.
