p02 At least 35 people, including children, were killed and more than 500 others injured when a powerful tornado ripped through the southeastern district of Brahmanbaria in Bangladesh. The tornado injured people were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Comilla Medical College Hospital and different other health facilities. A total of 500 people were enlisted officially as injured in the twister. p01Thousands of trees and utility poles were toppled and thousands of peoples were left homeless. The tornado disrupted both train and road communication, which interrupted rescue operations in Ushura, Chinair, Dubla, Jarultula, Chandi, Sultanpur, Ramrail, Jobontola, Machirhata and more 20 villages of the central Brahmanbaria district. Many crops, mainly rice, were damaged as well. The government has announced a grant of Taka 20,000 for families of each of the tornado-killed persons while Taka 5,000 for the injured, said sources at the Department of Disaster Management and Relief. Besides, two bundles of corrugated iron sheets, 30-KG rice and Taka 6,000 will be given to each family hit by the tornado. Fire Service, BGB, Police and RHD have managed to restart road communication by removing fallen trees. Rescue operations are being carried out with the help of Fire Service, BGB, Police, RHD, PWD and local people’s representatives. Two medical teams from Comilla Cantonment are engaged for rendering medical services. Almost all affected families are getting cooked food twice daily from the administration.
