Court orders CID to investigate
A Chattogram court yesterday ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to probe a case filed against OC Nazimuddin Majumder of Panchlaish Police Station and several other police personnel for allegedly torturing a youth in police custody after his arrest.
Abdul Aziz, a sub-inspector of the police station, and the OC are the two cops named in the case, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.
The victim, Syed Mohammad Mustakim, yesterday filed the case with the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions' Judge Begum Zebunnesa.
Taking the allegation into cognizance, the court ordered the special superintendent of Chattogram CID to investigate the case and submit a report by March 27, said his lawyer Zia Habib Ahasan.
According to the case statement, Mustakim took his mother to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for kidney dialysis on January 10. Police arrested him when he along with some kidney patients and their relatives were protesting the hike in dialysis fees at the hospital.
He also alleged that he was brutally tortured in custody after he was taken to the police station. SI Aziz hit parts of his body following the instructions of OC Nazimuddin, the plaintiff said.
Police also filed a case against him on charges of assaulting law enforcers and obstructing their work, added the case statement.
