Jubo League man killed in city
A group of armed assailants early yesterday hacked a Jubo League leader to death in the capital's Shahjahanpur area.
Oliullah Rubel, 36, was a candidate for the general secretary post of Jubo League's Ward 12 unit under Shahjahanpur Thana.
He came under attack when returning home after work, family members said.
Rubel was ambushed by four to five assailants wielding machetes around 15 yards from his home on Joardar Lane at 12:40am, said witnesses and police.
He had been living there with his wife and daughter for the last two years.
Rubel, also a former office secretary of Shahjahanpur Thana unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, was in the business of providing internet service and supplying water in the locality.
Police collected CCTV footage of the incident which show two assailants chasing already wounded Rubel on the street.
After the assailants left the place stabbing him indiscriminately, Rubel managed to reach home and collapsed right before it.
He also made a call to his wife Tanjina Dewan and screamed for help, Tanjina mentioned in the case statement she filed over her husband's murder with Shahjahanpur Police Station yesterday.
