Man gets life imprisonment for rape

A Thakurgaon court yesterday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a woman in the district's Sadar upazila in 2012.

The convict is Aktarul Islam, 31, of the upazila's Ghonimoheshpur village.

Judge Md Golam Farukh, of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, handed down the verdict in presence of the convict.

The court also fined him Tk.10,000, in default to suffer, six months more in jail.

The victim's father filed a case against the convict with Thakurgaon Police Station on May 1, 2012.

Mashiur Rahman, sub-inspector of the police station, submitted charge sheet before the court on July 15 that year.
