Tipu Murder: ‘Publish ads asking 8 accused to appear before court’
A Dhaka court yesterday directed the authorities concerned to publish advertisements in two national dailies, asking eight people, including two top-listed criminals, to appear before it on October 7, in the case filed over the murders of Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu and Samia Afran Jamal Prity in March last year.
Top-listed criminals Zeesan Ahmed alias Monti and Jafar Ahmed Manik alias Freedom Manik, Dhaka city (south) AL Organising Secretary Golam Ashraf Talukder, former general secretary of Motijheel Thana Chhatra League Khairul Islam, Motijheel thana Jatiya Party leader Juber Alam Khan Robin are among the fugitives accused in the case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order after getting progress reports from different police stations on execution of arrest warrants issued against them. On June 20, the same court issued arrest warrants against them after accepting the charges against 33 people, including Zeesan and Manik.
Yasin Sikder, a DB inspector and investigation officer of the case, on June 5 submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka.
On March 24 last year, criminals opened fire on Tipu's car in the capital's Shahjahanpur area, leaving the AL leader and college student Prity dead.
Tipu was the former general secretary of Motijheel AL.
