Benapole municipal polls held peacefully

Voting in Benapole municipal elections was held in a festive atmosphere with massive voter turnout.

The voting that started at 8:00am in 12 centers continued till 4:00pm without any break, reports our local correspondent.

Zulfikar Ali Montu, councilor candidate for Ward No.3 of the municipality, said voting in this word was held peacefully. No untoward incident occurred anywhere.

Adequate security measures were enforced at every polling stations.

Rafiqul Islam, presiding officer of Benapole Bazar Municipal Government Primary School Centre, said voting process was slow as EVMs were used for casting votes for the first time.

Mofizur Rahman Sajan, independent mayoral candidate of Benapole municipal election, claimed that some people infiltrated in the municipality ahead of the vote.

He also alleged that his polling agents were driven out of the polling centres. Voters were prevented from coming, he added.

Awami League candidate Nasir Uddin said his rival candidate is spreading misinformation to raise questions about the election . "I am 100 percent confident that I will win in the elections."

Jashore District Senior Election Officer Md Anisur Rahman said he has visited all the centers. The voting was held peacefully.

The last election in the municipality was held in 2011.
