Candidature to be cancelled if polls code violated: EC Rashida

BSS, Rajshahi

Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana today said candidature to the election of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) will be cancelled if he or she violates code of conducts.

"EC will take stern action against the violators of election code of conducts," she said while addressing a view-sharing meeting with the presiding officers of the RCC election as chief guest.

The Regional Election Office organised the meeting at Nanking Darbar Hall aimed at sensitising the presiding officers and others concerned on how to conduct the election perfectly.

With Commissioner of Rajshahi division GSM Jafarullah in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Election Commission Joint Secretary Farhad Ahmed Khan, Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed and Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Naresh Chakma.

Regional Election Officer and Returning Officer of RCC election Delwar Hossain and district election officer Abul Hossain also spoke on the occasion.

EC Rashida said they remained alert related to the RCC election and prompt action will be taken against any sort of irregularity and violation of code of conducts.

She urged the voters to go to the polling center in due time to exercise their rights of franchise.

Four candidates, including RCC former Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, are now in the election race for mayoral post, while 111 for councilors in 30 wards.

There are 3,51,982 voters to exercise their right of franchise in EVM in 155 polling centres in 30 wards from 8:00am to 4:00pm scheduled to be held on June 21.
