‘City inspectors’ to promote clean Dhaka
The DSCC has deployed “city inspectors” under a new initiative to encourage residents to maintain clean surroundings, prevent stagnant water that serves as breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes, and discourage indiscriminate waste disposal.
DSCC, with financial support from Aachi Bangladesh, or American Affordable Community Healthcare Initiative, launched a six-month pilot project in Motijheel’s Ward 9 yesterday.
The project will continue until December 9, with 20 city inspectors working directly with locals.
DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam formally inaugurated the pilot project at Nagar Bhaban.
He said city inspectors would primarily be responsible for raising public awareness and encouraging a culture of cleanliness to curb the spread of diseases like dengue, and protect public health by preventing air pollution and waterlogging.
If Motijheel’s Ward 9 successfully becomes a model ward, the programme will gradually be expanded to all wards under the DSCC, he added.
