Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated in Bangladesh on Saturday (March 21, 2026) as the Shawwal moon was not sighted in Bangladesh this evening.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee after reviewing the information of Shawwal moon sighting.

Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain Kaikobad presided over the meeting at the Islamic Foundation conference room at Dhaka’s Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the month of Ramadan, a period of month-long fasting for Muslims around the world, and the start of Shawwal, the tenth month in the Islamic (Hijri) calendar.

Muslims across the globe will seek divine blessings, peace, progress and prosperity in Eid jamaats.

Preparations have been made for holding Eid-ul-Fitr jamaats in the capital and other districts across the country.

The major Eid jamaat will be held at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises at 8:30am on the Eid day.

Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, will lead the prayers at the National Eidgah.

Thousands of people have already left the capital to celebrate the Eid with their loved ones. Launches, buses and trains leaving Dhaka for various destinations have been crowded since March 17.

The national flag will be hoisted atop government and non-government offices on the occasion. Main city streets will be decorated with flags imprinted with "Eid Mubarak" in Bengali and Arabic.

Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television as well as private television channels and radio stations will broadcast special programmes on this occasion.
