Teacher held over alleged assault of female madrasa student in Savar

A teacher at a girls’ madrasa in Savar has been detained over allegations that he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old student inside a classroom.

The accused, identified as Md Kamruzzaman, 36, teaches at the madrasa in Kamalapur area of Savar, said Imran Hossain, a sub-inspector at Savar Model Police Station who is in charge of the Bhabanipur police outpost.

According to the police official, the incident took place around 4:00pm yesterday, when the teacher allegedly found the class seven student alone in a classroom and touched her inappropriately.

The student later informed her family about the incident.

Residents gathered at the madrasa this morning and detained the teacher before handing him over to police.

No case was filed in this connection till 3:45pm. However, SI Imran said preparations were under way to file a case on behalf of the victim’s family.

He added that the accused would be shown arrested once the case is filed.
