Cucsu leaders hand over pro-AL teacher to CU proctor office
Leaders of the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Cucsu) today detained a university teacher, reportedly aligned with the Awami League, after a chase and handed him over to the proctor's office.
The incident occurred around 12:30pm after it was revealed that he was on duty during the 'B' Unit admission test for the 2025–26 academic session at CU.
The teacher, Roman Shuvo of the Law Faculty, was supervising the admission test at Gallery-1 when representatives of Cucsu learned of his presence, sources said. When they went to inform the dean's office, Roman allegedly attempted to flee the venue after receiving information about their move. He was later apprehended by Cucsu representatives and taken to the university's proctor's office.
According to Cucsu sources, multiple complaints had earlier been submitted to the university administration against Roman, accusing him of taking a stance against student movement during the July movement. In response to those allegations, the university formed an investigation committee, whose work is still ongoing.
Cucsu Executive Member Sohanur Rahman said, "A teacher known as an associate of fascism was performing admission test duty unethically. When we went to the dean's office to raise the issue, he tried to flee the hall after receiving inside information. We then brought him to the proctor's office."
Proctor Prof Dr Hossain Shahid Sarwardi said, “There is no hiding the fact that he was a pro–Awami League teacher. During the July movement, he had taken a stance against the students. As a result, upon spotting him today, the students detained him and took him to the proctor’s office.”
"No decision has been taken at this moment. If any decision is made, it will be communicated later,” he added.
