Fallen fascists may try to disrupt election but law enforcement fully prepared: Chief adviser
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has assured European Union election observers that the upcoming referendum and national parliamentary election will be held in a free, fair, peaceful, and festive atmosphere.
He acknowledged that people linked to the fallen autocratic regime may try to disrupt the election but said law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to handle any situation.
The chief adviser made the remarks during a meeting with the head of the EU delegation visiting Bangladesh today to observe the elections. Later, at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed journalists on the discussion.
Professor Yunus also informed the observers that strong interest in voting is being seen among women and young people and expressed hope for a very good voter turnout.
Shafiqul added that there was no discussion about the Awami League or its participation in the election during the meeting.
Thanking the European Union for sending an observation mission, the chief adviser said all political parties will have a level playing field and stressed that a fair election is crucial for Bangladesh’s democratic transition.
